EMPLOYMENT IN GOLF ADMINISTRATION

Finding a job in golf administration can be difficult. The IAGA is composed of 250 members from about 130 golf organizations primarily in the USA and Canada. Few positions are available; most hiring takes place in the winter. Only the very qualified are considered.

Most jobs, other than Executive Director, are found in championships, handicapping, member services, junior golf, and foundations. Background in these areas plus association management, business, computers, communications, marketing, and volunteerism are all key factors in golf administration success.

Look close to home for golf employment. Contact area state, regional, or provincial golf associations. If no jobs are available, submit a resume and volunteer to gain experience. Local associations may know about other jobs and have contacts with those organizations.

Internships are sometimes available, a great way to get started. The United States Golf Association sponsors the P.J. Boatwright, Jr., internship program in cooperation with many regional and state golf associations. To learn more about internships and other opportunities the USGA offers, contact them at 908-234-2300. Within the IAGA visit the job opportunities section.
